Vienna Map - Vintage City Plan of Wien, Austria

This restored city plan of Vienna carries its original German title, Plan der Reichshaupt- und Residenzstadt Wien, the plan of the imperial capital and residence city, and shows the Austrian capital in the era of the Habsburg monarchy. Each district is tinted in its own colour and marked with a Roman numeral, so the old inner city, the districts around it and the outer suburbs can all be told apart at a glance. The Danube runs diagonally across the sheet, and the wooded hills to the west of the city are shaded in relief.

An inset in the upper right enlarges the Innere Stadt, the historic core of Vienna around St Stephen's Cathedral, at a scale that lets the old street pattern be followed lane by lane. A tramway key sits in the lower left, with further reference tables set beside the inset. Streets, parks, railway lines and stations are drawn in fine detail across the main plan, which makes it a rewarding sheet for anyone who knows the city on foot.

This map suits anyone with family roots in Vienna, a traveller who fell for the city, or a collector of European city plans. It is a thoughtful gift for a birthday, a housewarming or Christmas. Like every print in the collection, it is printed on matte paper, ships unframed and is available in a range of sizes, from a compact study print to a large statement piece.
