This edition marks a significant departure from Finley's earlier 1826 Florida map, printed originally in pocket-map format and in his New American Atlas, reflecting several years of new territorial data.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eIn place of the massive Mosquito County shown on the 1826 edition, this map records a large area, colored green, labeled Seminoles and Indian Reserve, while Alachua County, extending from Charlotte Harbor to the Georgia state line, and Roe County dominate the remainder of the peninsula. Tallahassee, chosen as territorial capital in 1824 and shown here in a large inset, and Pensacola, the historic Gulf Coast port also given its own detailed inset, anchor the territory's political and commercial life, while Gainesville, at the heart of Alachua County, marks the growing interior settlement.
