Like Lloyd's other territorial maps, this sheet appeared only as a supplement bound into Warner \u0026amp; Beers county atlases of the 1870s, never as a standalone publication, which has made well-preserved examples genuinely scarce today. It stands, by most accounts, among the best and rarest commercial atlas maps of the Northern Rockies region produced during the decade.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eHelena continues to anchor Montana Territory as its capital amid a landscape of mining camps and emigrant trails, while Boise performs the same role for Idaho. South Pass City marks one of the region's storied Wyoming gold camps, sitting along the Overland Route to the Gold Fields that the map traces in detail alongside the separate Emigrant Road. Yellowstone itself is located on this plate, though notably the Teton mountains are not yet shown, an omission the map shares with many of its contemporaries.
