Hailed by the Royal Geographical Society as "the most perfect map of London that has ever been issued" when it was first published in 1862, Edward Stanford's library map of London was a landmark piece of Victorian cartography. This is a beautifully hand-coloured print from the 1891 edition, covering the sheet that focuses on the city-centre districts of modern-day Islington and Hackney.

The level of detail is remarkable - Hoxton, Haggerston, Clerkenwell, Bethnal Green, London Fields, Dalston, Kingsland, Canonbury, Shoreditch and De Beauvoir Square all appear clearly across the map. It's a wonderful print to pore over in search of the street where you grew up, an old family address, or the site of your first flat or office in the capital.

This atmospheric slice of Victorian east London makes a memorable birthday, Christmas or housewarming gift for anyone with roots in Hoxton, Hackney or the wider East End.
