This charming pictorial map of Norfolk was created by Ernest Clegg, one of the most celebrated mapmakers of the early twentieth century, and published in 1945 in the immediate aftermath of the Second World War. Rather than a plain topographical chart, Clegg's map combines a detailed outline of the county with a series of hand-drawn illustrations celebrating Norfolk's history, making it as much a commemorative wartime keepsake as a map.

At the heart of the map sits a detailed outline of Norfolk itself, taking in the cathedral city of Norwich, the harbour town of Great Yarmouth with its fishing boats picked out along the quay, and the royal Sandringham estate, alongside the wider county encompassing towns such as King's Lynn, Cromer, Thetford and Fakenham. Clegg also pays tribute to Norfolk's most famous son, Admiral Lord Nelson, and includes a wartime flourish in the form of Winston Churchill's stirring words about fighting on the beaches, in the fields and in the streets, tying the map firmly to its 1945 publication date.

This map makes a memorable Christmas, birthday, retirement or housewarming gift for anyone from Norfolk, a Royal Navy enthusiast, or a lover of British wartime history, and it also works well as a thoughtful corporate gift. All of Clegg's original illustrations and lettering have been carefully restored to preserve the fine detail of this 1945 pictorial map.
