This exquisite map of Warwickshire comes from John Speed's monumental atlas "The Theatre of the Empire of Great Britaine," published in 1611. Speed was England's foremost cartographer of county maps, and his Warwickshire sheet is a masterwork of detail and artistry, documenting a county at the heart of medieval England, rich in castles, markets, and ecclesiastical power.

The great towns of Warwickshire are all here: Birmingham, already growing as an ironworking centre, spreads across its landscape. Coventry, one of England's most significant medieval cities, commands attention with its walls and cathedral. Warwick itself, the county town, sits proudly with its famous castle overlooking the Avon. Solihull, Stratford-upon-Avon, the birthplace of William Shakespeare, Rugby, Kenilworth with its castle ruins, Nuneaton, Leamington, and Bedworth all feature prominently, alongside the River Avon winding through the composition and smaller market towns like Tamworth and Alcester.

An ideal birthday, Christmas, Father's Day or housewarming gift for history lovers, genealogists, or anyone with ties to the Midlands.
