This exceedingly rare monochrome map shows Great Britain - England, Scotland and Wales - as it was believed to appear during the fifth and sixth centuries AD, under the Anglo-Saxon Heptarchy of seven kings. It was created by John Speed, the finest English cartographer of the seventeenth century, engraved by Jodocus Hondius, and first published in Speed's "The Theatre of the Empire of Great Britaine."

Down the left side of the map are seven pre-Christian Anglo-Saxon kings, and down the right are seven Christian kings, shown receiving Christianity or being martyred for their faith. Many towns and cities across England, Scotland and Wales can be made out, along with a few on Ireland's west coast.

This would make a wonderful gift for anyone interested in the early history of Britain.
