Louisiana in 1893 - New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Shreveport

The 1893 World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago celebrated four hundred years since Columbus's arrival in the Americas, and George F. Cram marked the occasion with an atlas of ninety state and territory maps, published for Wood Brothers Cash Store of Unadilla, New York. This sheet, covering Louisiana, is one of those ninety maps.

Louisiana appears here in the atlas's standard outline hand color, its counties marked off in red and its border with the Gulf of Mexico traced along the southern edge of the sheet. Isolines are used to suggest depth near the coast, and the map notes Louisiana's position relative to Mississippi and Texas. Cities and towns of the day are labeled at a scale of 1:2,000,000, with both the Greenwich and Washington prime meridians referenced in the margin, consistent with the rest of the atlas.
