This is a magnificent historical map of Kent, Sussex, Surrey, and Middlesex from 1575, created by the English cartographer Christopher Saxton, widely regarded as the founder of English scientific cartography. These counties formed the wealthy core of southeastern England, long the gateway to the Continent and the economic engine of the English kingdom.

Canterbury, one of England's holiest cities, anchors the Kentish portion, its great cathedral a pilgrimage destination visited by Chaucer's pilgrims. Dover stands on the coast as the closest English port to France, while Rochester and Maidstone sit along the Medway. Moving west into Surrey, Guildford, Kingston upon Thames, Croydon, and Epsom are all shown, while Sussex reveals Chichester in the west, Lewes inland, and the coastal towns of Hastings, Rye, Winchelsea, and Brighton. The Weald, the great forested heartland of the region, and the Thames and Medway rivers are clearly drawn throughout.

Ideal as a birthday, Christmas, Father's Day or housewarming gift for history enthusiasts, genealogists, or anyone with connections to Kent, Sussex, Surrey, or the wider Home Counties.
