Drawn by Samuel Lewis in 1844 to accompany his widely used Topographical Dictionary of England, this hand-coloured map records the county of Norfolk in the years just before the railways reshaped rural England. Norwich, the county town on the River Wensum, is marked at the heart of the map, alongside the busy port of King's Lynn on the Wash, the seaside town of Great Yarmouth where the River Yare meets the sea, and the smaller market towns of Thetford and East Dereham.

The map offers a detailed view of a county shaped by water and farmland. The waterways that would later become known as the Norfolk Broads thread through the eastern part of the county, while the market towns of Swaffham, Fakenham and Aylsham are shown serving the surrounding agricultural land. Along the north coast, the fishing and resort towns of Cromer, Sheringham and Wells-next-the-Sea appear facing the North Sea, and North Walsham is marked inland among the flat, fertile fields that made Norfolk one of England's most productive farming counties. It is a landscape that would have been instantly recognisable to generations of Norfolk families.

This map of Norfolk suits a wide range of homes, from a farmhouse kitchen to a coastal holiday cottage, and its warm, period colouring works especially well in hallways, studies and living spaces. It makes a lovely Mother's Day gift for a mother who grew up near Norwich or King's Lynn, a fitting retirement present for someone planning to settle on the Norfolk coast, and a memorable birthday gift for anyone with roots in Great Yarmouth or East Dereham. Printed unframed on archival-quality paper, it offers a distinctive and lasting piece of Norfolk wall art.
