Oliver Master wrote the text and Arthur Edward Elias supplied the drawings for this map of Ontario, part of the Dominion of Canada Animated Atlas published by Canada's Department of the Interior in 1929. The atlas replaced conventional boundary-and-railroad cartography with an illustrated promotional format, filling each provincial sheet with humorous drawings meant to advertise the region's economic strengths to settlers, investors and tourists across the Dominion and beyond. Ontario's sheet, covering by far the most populous and industrialized province in the Dominion, leans on its manufacturing, mining and hydroelectric development, its illustrations mixing factories and mineheads with sketches of the province's lakes and forests. It captures Ontario sixty-two years after Confederation, its economy already outpacing every other province, still promoted through exactly this kind of cheerful government publication aimed at drawing further investment and settlement.

Toronto, the provincial capital on Lake Ontario, is marked as the financial and manufacturing heart of the province. Ottawa, inland on the Ottawa River, appears as the Dominion capital, its government offices set apart from Toronto's commercial bustle.
