This is a rare full colour map of Wales from 1610, created by John Speed - widely regarded as the finest British cartographer of the Stuart era. It was first published in Speed's "The Theatre of the Empire of Great Britaine," one of the most important atlases of the British Isles for several centuries afterward.
The map's borders are decorated with sixteen small views of Welsh towns as they appeared in the 1600s. Most of Wales' notable towns and cities are clearly visible, including Cardiff, Newport, Swansea, Denbigh, Carnarvon, Carmarthen, Bangor, Abergavenny and Hay-on-Wye, along with their counties, rivers, villages and mountains - though some names differ slightly from today, with Brecon then known as Breknok and Pembrokeshire as Penbrokshire.
This would make a wonderful gift for someone from Wales or with Wales close to their heart.
