Old Map of Edinburgh 1834 by WB Clark - Princes Street, Calton Hill, Arthur's Seat

This rare, full-colour map of central Edinburgh was drawn by W.B. Clark and published by Baldwin and Cradock in 1834. It offers a fascinating snapshot of Scotland's capital nearly two centuries ago, capturing the city just as its most famous streets were taking shape.

Remarkably, central Edinburgh has changed very little in the years since - Queen Street, George Street and Princes Street are all clearly laid out, while Calton Hill and Arthur's Seat sit exactly where they do today. The Water of Leith is picked out in blue as it winds across the map, and a detailed inset engraving of Edinburgh Castle sits to one side. A lovely detail for history lovers is that the map also marks streets and buildings that were planned but not yet built, including the area where Edinburgh Waverley station would later stand.
