This rare and highly detailed map of Sweden and Finland, titled Svea ock Gota Riken med Finland ock Norland, was published in Stockholm in 1747 by Georg Biurman, a leading Swedish mapmaker. The title promises the realms of the Svea and the Gota together with Finland and Norrland, and it states that the map was drawn in Stockholm in the year 1747. The sheet includes a large inset of the upper portion of Sweden, which gives the northern lands a scale of their own and lets the viewer read the long upper stretch of the country with more care. The map is detailed and uncommon, and it gives a rare view of how Swedish surveyors drew their own kingdom in the middle of the eighteenth century.

Georg Biurman lived from 1700 to 1755 and was a Swedish surveyor and engraver at the old land survey office in Stockholm. He became known for a wide range of detailed mapping of Stockholm and Sweden, and for a travel guide published in 1742. In the 1730s he became head of the printing company established at the land survey on Vastra Tradgardsgatan in Stockholm. His travel guide received its privilege in 1742 and was the first official guide after the one by Peter Warnmarck in 1709, which gives some measure of the standing of his work.

A collector of Swedish cartography, a family with roots in Sweden or Finland, or a traveler fond of Stockholm will find a rare gift here. TheMapVault's Wilkinson map of Sweden, Denmark and Norway from 1794 shows the same lands from a London press, whereas this sheet was made at home in the Swedish capital. Like every print in the collection, it ships unframed and is available in a full range of sizes, from a compact desk piece to a large-format statement print. It would suit a study or a hall.
